Mason Wells is one of the leading private equity firms in the Midwest with venture capital and buyout funds under management.  The venture capital fund invests in early-stage companies in the biomedical industry, with a geographic preference for the Midwestern United States.  We define the biomedical industry as the provider, supplier and consumer side of healthcare.  We have a preference for investing in the biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biomedical information technology sectors.

Founded in 1982 as a subsidiary of Marshall & Ilsley Corporation, Mason Wells became an independent firm in 1998. The Mason Wells Biomedical Fund I was launched in 2000 and is currently only investing in existing portfolio companies.  Mason Wells is not making any new investments through Fund I.  The existing team of investment professionals will manage the investments through exit.

The venture capital group is comprised of a seasoned team of investment professionals . Over the years, the venture capital group has established relationships with leading Midwestern biomedical research institutions and medical centers.  The venture capital group has also assembled a blue chip team of technical, medical and scientific advisors.  In 2002, Mason Wells founded the Mid-America Healthcare Investors Network (MHIN – www.mhin.info). This not-for-profit organization was formed to help facilitate the syndication of venture financing's for early, mid, and late-stage healthcare technology companies.
